Oaklands Swim Club - The Slugs
Established in 1960, Oaklands Swim Club is home to The Slugs who are a swim team that provides nothing less than fun, friendships, festivities, and future swim champions!!
As members of the Suburban Swim League (SSL), there is a real sense of community within this group. Many of the kids become each other's best friends. There is great support for all swimmers, both new swimmers or those with more experience.
The same can be said for the team of parents who volunteer as committee members, timers, judges, snack bar, grillers, and everyone else that helps to ensure swim meets and the team run smoothly.
Our coaching staff from the Head Coach all the way down to our Junior Coaches make similar contributions in time and energy to support each and every one of our Slugs swimmers. That includes those quite adept to swim team along with individuals starting swim team for the first time. They are here to help our team succeed.
Altogether, it is a wonderful group of people who provide a great environment for kids to have fun, exercise, discipline, and some friendly competition as well. We are more than a swim team ... we are a swim family.
Swimmers between the ages of 4 and 18 who have varying abilities and experience levels are invited to join our team.
As long as your child(ren) can swim the length of the pool unaided they are welcome to join and compete in SSL Swim Meets. Have a swimmer that's not quite ready to compete yet, but is comfortable in and around the water? That's okay too as they're welcome to join the team as part of the Li'l Slug program.
The swim team helps build self-confidence and improves swimming ability. Other benefits outside of swimming as that swimmers create friendships that they will cherish for a lifetime. We have a GREAT group of kids and we enthusiastically welcome new members.
